This series channels chthonic energy and themes and traverses the Dionysian and Apollonian dualities or shadow and light present in our inner, and outer worlds. The works are characterised by a Deconstructionist approach, employing expressive mark making, countered with stark, photo-emulsion screen-printed elements, to create a dialogue between the graphic and the gestural.
Artistic influences include; Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, Ray Johnson, Andy Warhol, Eduardo Paolozzi, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Sigmar Polke, Richard Larter, David Carson (Ray Gun Magazine).
Series title derived from the track ‘Une Annee Sans Lumiere’ (a year without light) Arcade Fire.
